Manufacturing Process
Sodium fluoride is manufactured through the neutralization reaction of hydrofluoric acid or fluoride salts such as ammonium fluoride with sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide. To obtain sodium fluoride from the reaction, precipitating agents such as alcohols are sometimes used.
Neutralization reaction is conducted by reacting hydrofluoric acid with sodium salt such as sodium hydroxide or soda ash.
After the neutralization is conducted, the supernatant generated from the hydrofluoric acid and sodium salt and the precipitated solid is centrifuged to separate the precipitated solid from the supernatant.
To remove the impurities from the precipitated sodium fluoride, the precipitated sodium fluoride is dried, especially when using sodium hydroxide as a sodium salt source since it generated water as a byproduct, besides sodium fluoride as its main product.
